Lunch consisted of (v.large) sandwiches, chocolate bars, cookies and hot honey tea. The view from lunch was outstanding, we must have been able to see for 100 miles in every direction and there was not a cloud in sight. During lunch, both Kim and Kris told us that they only get a handful of days in a year with such perfect conditions. It was so warm (well, when I say warm I mean -5°C) and sunny that Kris passed round the suncream at one point. Kris took a few pictures of us standing next to the helicopter with our boards and it was time for our third and "last" run, which was called "Coppercrown". |

Initially we had to traverse a bit to avoid some debris caused by an avalanche (set off by R.K. Heli to make the run rideable). This run did not have a flatter section at the bottom, instead we stopped about half way down, just before a 10 foot (ish) cornice drop onto another, steeper slope. At this point Kris took the video camera and skied down through the trees at the side of the run to leave the snow untouched for us. Jacqui went first, opting to ride round the cornice on a slightly flatter section, which Kris had made for her. I went off the drop first, stomped the landing and cruised down the steep slope to where Kris and Jacqui were waiting and we watched the others cruise down. Once we'd ridden down to the pickup site, we realised that this should have been our 3rd, and last run. Would we continue? Find out on the next page. |
